VIJAYAWADA: Kanaka Durga Varadhi Junction may witness a make-over within a week’s time as the massive Dharmachakra, which symbolises Buddhism, and greenery works on the island being undertaken by the Amaravati Development Corporation (ADCL) are near completion. Speaking to TNIE on Monday, ADCL superintendent engineer M V Suryanarayana said that the corporation had taken up the Dharmachakra-related works under Amaravati-Vijayawada Gateway initiative at an estimated cost of Rs 7.5 crore. “Sculptors from Shilpakala Mandiram in Nandyal, Kurnool district are working to carve the chakra out of pink stone bought from Banishpad in Rajasthan. The structure is 53 feet high, has a base of 23 feet by 30 feet by 4 feet and weighs 10 tonnes,” he said.

The ADCL official said that the deadline for completion of the project passed two months ago and attributed the delay to scarcity of labour. On the other hand, the greenery works on the island at an estimated cost of Rs 15.82 lakh have been completed.
