Popular TV Star and Actor Sai Prashanth Commits Suicide

The 'Neram' actor is said to have mixed poison in his drink. The reason behind the suicide is not known.

CHENNAI: Popular Tamil television artiste S Sai Prashanth allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Valasarawakkam on Sunday.

Police sources said S Sai Prashanth mixed poison in his drink. He was found dead at his residence in Ganga Nagar 2nd Street in Chennai.

The reason behind the suicide was not clear but police speculated that depression may have been the cause.

Prashanth had divorced his first wife and married again less than three months ago.

The Valasaravakkam police have moved his body to the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital (KMCH) for a post-mortem procedure.

Prashanth's parents, who are based in Hosur have been informed and they are on their way to the city, police said. His mother Lalitha S Subash is a former vice-president of the Tamil Nadu unit of the BJP and was a member of the Censor Board.

Apart from his TV work, Sai Prashanth has acted in about 10 feature films. He was a well-known personality in films as well as television. Starting off as a VJ on a popular Tamil music channel, he shifted to serials and played character roles.

The serials he has acted in include Annamalai, Selvi and Arasi. His films include Mundhinam Paar-theney (2010), Neram (2013), Thegidi (2014) and Vadacurry (2014).

He also was a Sun Music VJ for some time. He had participated in reality dance shows, including Jodi No 1 and hosted television shows like Dil Dil Manadhil,  among others.
