After cementing his name as an experimental filmmaker with an innovative touch with his short film Sulle Sathya, which travelled to Cannes, Akash Srivatsa has made sure that he cannot be ignored. His next, Badmaash is eagerly anticipated as one that will raise the bar of filmmaking in Sandalwood, especially in the technical department.
At a recent press meet, the director revealed that the film’s main highlight would be its screenplay. Akash says, “ I have attempted a different approach with the screenplay. Though it is a difficult task for a technician to put forth the narrative in a subject like Badmaash, it becomes easy for the audience to follow. I believe that the fate of the film will depend on its screenplay. We do have parallel runs and of course, the mass elements have also been considered,” he says.
The director believes that the 20 odd characters in the film will be remembered for a long time to come. According to him, every character has a goal. “Nobody is left midway and that is basic essence of the screenplay,” he says.
Akash is also upbeat about the recent song shoot. The lyrics were written by Yogaraj Bhat and the song was sung by Vijayaprakash. “We have come upwith an experimental way of singing sentimental and pathos-oriented songs, which were recently shot at Kanteerva Studio. They have turned out to be colourful and catchy. We have also completed a montage song,” says Akash, who will start with his remaining fight schedules from next week. “Meanwhile, we are on a location hunt for three song shoots. We are yet to decide whether we want to do it here or abroad,” he says.
Badmaash stars Dhananjay and Sanchita Shetty and the film has completed 85 per cent of its shoot. The film is a romantic thriller revolves around a professional conman’s life and an RJ and a fiercely passionate Kannadiga who tries to educate non-Indians about Kannada and Indian culture through street plays and theatrical plays. “For me, Dhananjay in Badmaash behaves like Rama but thinks and acts like Krishna. He is someone who gains your confidence but cleverly cons you at the same time,” says Akash, adding, “While we have Dhananjay as Badmaash, Achyuth Kumar is the main draw lending a good opposition. Both cross paths and that is the major point of the film,” he says.
Dhananjay is looking forward to his immediate release, Boxer which will be followed up by Badmaash.
