The eponymous cock crowing atop the globe - it’s a logo etched in the memory of a generation. A banner that doled out many a blockbuster, Udaya Studios finally gets a fresh lease of life by its young scion. After a long gap spreading across decades, Udaya is all set to  produce a film that will start rolling in February 2016. Kunchako Boban, who plans to revive the banner to its past glory, says he was waiting for an apt script. “Since it’s a project marking the return of Udaya I was keen on having a quality subject. For me the commercial aspect comes only secondary. I am confident that it’s a story that will stay in your heart for a long time,” he says.

Scripted and directed by award-winning filmmaker Sidhartha Siva, the untitled film will be a humourous entertainer set in a typical Kerala village. Quiz him of choosing someone  associated with art-house cinema to helm the project and Kunchako says, “ours is definitely not an offbeat film. Even I was under the impression that he belongs to parallel cinema, but I found the script intriguing. It’s a feel-good film full of genuine, clean humour. It’s the kind of film that evokes a positive vibe and carries a strong message,” he says.

Set in countryside and brimming with humour, Kunchako says it will be a film all Malayalis can easily relate to. “It’s a story straight out of our lives, focusing on two individuals,” he says. The film, which he calls a total entertainer, will have two lead characters.

“You can expect a new face in one of the main roles and we haven’t finalised the heroine,” he informs.

The film will be shot in and around Thodupuzha and Bangalore. “We are planning to release the film by May next year, during the school vacation,” he adds.
