Film: Salute Cast: BC Patil, Ashwini, Vijay Koundinya, Prakash, Satyajit, Harish Rai, Ashok Kheny, Nagesh Kumar, Dingri Nagaraj Director: BC Patil

Actor-cum-politician BC Patil has come out with one more action flick after a long gap. He has donned multiple roles for this film — director, actor, script and screenplay writer.

One may safely say that the film is by Patil, for Patil and of Patil.

The problem with Patil is that he brazenly tries to project himself as the one and only sincere cop who resigned out of compulsion. He also tries to say through the film that he is the only politician who works for people’s welfare. He even hints that he is a suitable candidate to become the home minister, or even the chief minister.

T he dialogues and song sequences are aimed at the mass audience. But the item song by Rachana Maurya has no justification.

As far as Nagesh Kumar’s performance is concerned, we can say that it would be better if he confines himself to financial matters. The problem with him is that he does not understand the importance of his character. Prakash is also a wrong selection, mouthing dialogues laced with North Karnataka diction. Vijay Koundinya’s talent has been wasted.

Ashwini, who has acted in a few films, should have thought twice before accepting such a role. Her character in the film, especially in the pre-intermission session, has no significance.

The film begins with BC Patil (as himself) washing his mouth with beer at a local bar and mixing idlis with beer at a hotel. He introduces himself as Assistant Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Bangalore.

As an ACP, Patil tries to wipe out anti-social elements from Bangalore but politicians come in his way. He resigns from the police department and joins politics. He gets elected as an independent candidate and becomes the home minister. The film ends with Patil becoming the chief minister of Karnataka.

Looks like Patil’s wishful thinking was translated into a script.
