The donation scheme, introduced in the Tamil Film Directors’ Union by its treasurer S P Jananathan, seems to have gained acceptance, as scores of directors have been voluntarily coming forward to donate a minimum of Rs 10,000 whenever they direct a movie. “We introduced the scheme for the welfare of fellow directors and to help the needy. We asked the directors to pay Rs 10,000 whenever their movie releases,” says SP Jananathan.  According to him, director Venkat Prabhu donated Rs 50,000 during the release of Mankatha and directors AL Vijay and Raja donated Rs 25,000 each when Deivathirumagal and Velayudham released respectively. “Director Vijay came with actor Vikram to give the money,” he said. “Everybody is appreciating the initiative and are willing to donate,” he added.
