Kaaka Muttai fame director Manikandan will start working on his next titled Kadaisi Vivasayi (The Last Farmer). To be produced by Eros International, the film will have a 70-year-old playing the role of a farmer. The story revolves around the life of an aged farmer and how people take advantage of him and take away his land.

Sagar Sadhwani, senior vice president — business development, Eros International, tells CE, “It also deals with how he does not understand the legal procedures or how our legal system works. As a layman, how he comes out of the whole issue forms the crux of the story.”

Sagar says the team hasn’t zeroed in on the actor yet. “We’re in talks with both professional and non-professional actors. Besides the protagonist, there will be a bunch of supporting artistes, who will be renowned faces of Tamil cinema. Things are in initial stages though,” he shares.

Sagar adds that the production house is keen to expand its wings in the sourthern markets, promoting rightly-priced and strong content-driven films. “We’re looking at encouraging new talent. Manikandan has taken the entire onus on his shoulders and we want to reach out to a bigger audience,” he says. Meanwhile, Manikandan, is awaiting the release of the Vidharth-starrer Kutrame Thandanai.
