Shirish Saravanan, who impressed critics and audiences with his debut flick Metro (2016), directed by Ananda Krishnan, doesn’t want to limit himself as an actor. “I’ve received a lot of compliments for this film and am happy. Post Metro, people have started recognising me when I go outside. The film made me understand that it’s viable for a team to convey a socially-relevant message in a way that appeals to the public. I’ve been getting many offers, but plan to take it slow,” he says.

Having pursued Visual Communication at Loyola, the young actor got himself trained in acting under Kalairani of Mudhalvan fame for six months. “I’ve been trained to do action and fights, too. Maybe that’s why I felt quite comfortable in front of the camera. I didn’t feel like a newcomer and can confidently say that I know a thing or two about emoting and expressing,” he smiles. Shirish, who looks up to Gautham Menon, STR and Ajith, besides others, says he wants to be a part of realistic films. “I want to do something like what Vikram sir did in I (2015).

I’d like to push myself hard for any character that demands the best from me. I am even game for negative roles. It’s good to see that everybody has accepted me as an actor an that has made me feel more responsible,” he says.

Talking about his future projects, the actor says, “Honestly, we never thought Metro would become a hit! Expectations are high now, so I need to choose my next script wisely. I have my eyes on a few, and  will make it official by the end of July. At least until I establish myself as a good actor, I want to restrict myself from doing full-fledged commercial movies.”
