HYDERABAD: The five-day Prapancha Telugu Mahasabhalu (World Telugu Conference) will be held in the city from December 15.Preparations are going on in full swing and around Rs 50 crore was sanctioned for this particular event by the Telangana government. A poster on the event was released here on Wednesday. KV Ramanachary, advisor to government on culture and tourism, said that efforts were being made to spread awareness about the conference among Telugu people around the country. 

“Starting November 4, various members of the core committee formed for the World Telugu Conference will be travelling to Delhi, Chennai and other cities to encourage Telugu people, especially those from Telangana, to participate in the conference,” he said. They will be enlightened about the registration process and other requirements for participation.

This is the first time that the World Telugu Conference is being conducted in Telangana state. Nandini Sidda Reddy, chairman of Sahitya Akademi which is the main agency for organising the event, said that the conference would  highlight the Telangana dialect that had been suppressed for 100 years. “We will be bringing together cultural agencies, poets, writers and others with the motive to emphasise the greatness of Telugu language and the Telangana dialect,” he said. As part of the preparations, discussions and seminars are being held across the state.
