Loyalty test: District Magistrate issued summons

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has issued conditional summons to the District Magistrate (DM) of Sabarkantha in Gujarat over the incident where hands of 40 people were burnt in boiling oil to prove that they had cast their votes in favour of Dinesh Parmar, who had contested for the post of sarpanch of Deria village in Bayad taluk.

Supreme Court lawyer and rights activist Radhakanta Tripathy had moved the apex human rights body in this regard seeking a thorough probe into the incident.

He requested that the NHRC to investigate the matter, expose the culprit and provide medical care to the victims. He also sought a direction to the state for payment of compensation to the victims.
