YSRC leader Bhuma Shobha Nagi Reddy, who had met with an accident on Wednesday, succumbed to her injuries at a private hospital here on Thursday. Doctors said she died owing to severe brain injury and broken ribs.

The 45-year old Allagadda MLA, who was seeking a re-election, was on her way home at around 11.30 p.m., when her SUV overturned near Gubaguntla village. Shobha, who was in the front seat, was thrown out of the car. She was first rushed to a hospital in Nandyal and later shifted to a private hospital in Hyderabad. Her two gunmen and the vehicle driver were also injured and are being treated at a hospital in Kurnool.

Daughter of former minister SV Subba Reddy, Shobha entered politics in 1997, and won from the Allagadda constituency on a TDP ticket. A four-time MLA, she also played a key role in Chiranjeevi’s now defunct Praja Rajyam. She is survived by husband Bhuma Nagi Reddy, two daughters and a son.
