NEW DELHI: Congress President Rahul Gandhi on Thursday slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi without naming him over the mysterious death and burial without autopsy of a key witness in the Unnao rape-murder case involving BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar.

"The mysterious death and hurried burial without an autopsy, of the key witness in the Unnao rape and murder case, involving BJP MLA Kuldeep Sengar, smells of a conspiracy. Is this your idea of "justice for our daughters", Mr 56 ?, " Rahul, who is visiting Germany, tweeted.

The Congress had majorly protested the rape and murder incident following which the UP government had handed over the case to the CBI, which later made BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar an accused.

Yunus, a CBI key eyewitness died under mysterious circumstances and was buried hurriedly without getting his post-mortem done. Following this, the gang-rape victim's uncle had alleged conspiracy behind Yunus's death and blamed Sengar, who is in jail, and his men for the dirty job.

CBI had made Yunus the main witness in the brutal beating up of victim's father by the BJP MLA's brother Atul Singh Sengar and four others, which resulted in his death in police custody. Yunus owned a general merchant shop in Makhi village of Unnao and was a witnessed to the attack on victim's father.

Villagers said that Yunus suddenly fell ill on Saturday and passed away within an hour even before he could be taken to the hospital for treatment. The family members buried him without even informing the CBI and the police.
