BHUBANESWAR: Union Education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Tuesday hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of indulging in “petty politics” over the death by self-immolation of a girl student of FM College in Balasore district.

Responding to Rahul’s accusation that the death of the girl is not a suicide but a systematic murder by the system, Pradhan said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP have always taken concrete steps for women’s safety and justice whereas the Congress has turned such incidents into an opportunity to further their political agenda.

“The cheap politics played by Rahul Gandhi and Congress on the tragic incident involving a daughter from Odisha is highly unfortunate. Turning a serious and sensitive matter into a political weapon reflects Rahul Gandhi’s cheap mentality,” Pradhan said in an X post.

The minister said the incident has shaken the entire nation but the Congress has turned it into an opportunity to bake its political bread. “Odisha government stands solidly with the victim’s family and stringent action will be taken against the culprits with no one spared. This is not the time for cheap politics but for ensuring justice for the victim’s family. Rahul Gandhi should immediately apologise to the victim’s family for his irresponsible statement,” he added.
