SRINAGAR: In a first, the BJP’s Jammu and Kashmir unit held a meeting of its members in Srinagar on Sunday, focusing on further strengthening the organisation in the Muslim-majority Valley.
The day-long review meeting was held at Hotel Countryside in Nowgam, Srinagar, with senior BJP leaders deliberating on strengthening the party organisation, expanding grassroots outreach and preparing the cadre for upcoming political and organisational programmes.
It is the first time that the J&K BJP has convened its office-bearers meeting in Srinagar, signalling the improved security situation in the Valley.
The party had traditionally held such meetings at its headquarters in Jammu, which is the party's stronghold.
J&K BJP President and MP Sat Sharma chaired the meeting. The meeting was attended by Union MoS PMO Dr Jitendra Singh, Leader of Opposition in J&K Sunil Sharma, General Secretary (Org) Ashok Koul, MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, MP Ghulam Ali Khatana and former Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh among others.
While addressing the meeting, Sat Sharma stressed the need for continued ideological commitment and a stronger organizational presence at the booth level.
He called for regular meetings at every level of the organisation from booth and Shakti Kendra to Mandal, District and State to ensure better coordination and sustained engagement with the public.
“BJP is not merely a political organisation but a movement rooted in nationalist ideology and dedicated to public service,” he said.
Union MoS Jitendra Singh appreciated BJP’s organisational strength in J&K and urged party leaders and workers to remain prepared for emerging political and organisational challenges.
He said the region had witnessed a significant change in its development trajectory and the mindset of its youth under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, with peace and normalcy returning to the region.
Singh said Kashmiri youth have become increasingly aspirational after witnessing the difficult period of the past three decades.
LoP Sunil Sharma recalled the sacrifices and dedication of BJP cadres in J&K, saying the party’s growing strength at the grassroots is the result of the commitment and hard work of its workers over the years.
Former Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh said the state office bearers have an important role in maintaining a strong link between the party organization and the people.
He called for greater interaction with workers and the public at the grassroots level.
A BJP leader said the meetings reviewed organizational functioning and discussed strategies for strengthening the party’s presence and public outreach across Jammu and Kashmir.
The leaders called upon the party cadre to remain united, disciplined and connected with the people while working with renewed commitment towards strengthening the organization at every level.
