RAIPUR: Former Chhattisgarh chief minister Bhupesh Baghel launched a blistering attack against the ruling BJP government, accusing the administration of running a coordinated disinformation campaign and flagging irreconcilable discrepancies in the official figures quoted for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana—Gramin (PMAY-G) in the state.
Challenging the state leadership, Baghel put the BJP-led government in the dock by pitting the deputy chief minister's statements directly against disclosures made on the floor of the Lok Sabha.
Baghel revealed that on June 9, 2026, Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Sharma wrote a formal letter to Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai asserting that 18.5 lakh PMAY houses had been completed in the state.
However, quoting parliamentary proceedings from August 11, 2026, Baghel pointed out that Raipur BJP MP Brijmohan Agrawal tabled data obtained directly from the Union Government, stating that only 9.81 lakh houses have been completed in Chhattisgarh.
Demanding accountability, Baghel asked: "Who is misleading the public, and who is lying? The government must clarify whether Deputy CM Sharma submitted falsified data to the Chief Minister, or whether Raipur BJP MP was handed incorrect figures by the Union Ministry in the Lok Sabha.” He flags a data discrepancy between the Dy CM and Parliament.
Deputy CM Sharma asserted that the Centre has officially ratified the state’s massive progress in rural housing, exposing what he termed as "deliberate misinformation and deception" being peddled by the opposition Congress.
"Instead of manufacturing illusions, had the former Chief Minister actually delivered during his tenure, lakhs of poor families in Chhattisgarh would not have been deprived of permanent roofs over their heads," alleged Sharma, who also holds the Panchayati Raj and Rural Development portfolio.
Reeling out official metrics, the Deputy CM highlighted that the Vishnu Deo Sai-led government made rural housing its top priority right from its maiden cabinet meeting, where a resolution was passed to sanction and build over 18 lakh homes for eligible beneficiaries.
"In the short span under the new government, more than 11 lakh houses under PMAY-G have already been completed and handed over to beneficiaries," Sharma announced. He pointed out that during the last financial year alone, Chhattisgarh constructed over 5.92 lakh houses—the highest delivery rate achieved by any state across India.
"We are turning Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s guarantee of housing for all into an uncompromising reality," Sharma asserted.
