KOZHIKODE: A meeting of the Janakeeya Samara Samithi, protesting against the GAIL pipeline  project, held here on Saturday has decided to attend the meeting called by the state government to discuss the issue. Samara Samithi leader C P Cheriya Muhammed  confirmed the representatives of the Samara Samithi have decided to attend the meeting convened at the district collectorate on Monday. Earlier, there were rumours the Samara Samithi may boycott the meeting.

“But we haven’t received any official intimation regarding the meet from the government,” said Cheriya Muhammed. Our demand is the government should stop all construction works, he said. “No notice was served regarding the commencement of the construction works. We need to attend the meeting to present our concerns and views regarding the project,” he said. 

On Friday, the government had announced its decision to hold a consensus meeting to discuss on the matter. As per the  decision, Minister of Industries A C Moideen, who will be presiding over conference with the Samara Samithi representatives, had directed the district administration to arrange a  meeting, which will be attended by elected representatives and leaders of various political parties.
