Two IAS officers get 3-yr jail term

Subhash Mishra

In yet another blow to the Akhilesh Yadav Government, a special CBI court in Ghaziabad on Tuesday sentenced senior IAS officers Neera Yadav and Rajiv Kumar to three years in jail in a land allotment case.

Rajiv Kumar had been posted recently by the UP government as principal secretary (appointment).

Former Chief Secretary Meera Yadav was CEO of Noida Authority at the time of the allotments.

However, both the officers were let off on bail after submitting personal bonds. In a fortnight, this is the second blow to the Uttar Pradesh Government which has come under scathing criticism for posting tainted officers in key positions. About a fortnight ago, the Allahabad High Court had sent two officers – Sanjiv Sharan and Rakesh Bahadur, posted as chairman and CEO respectively of Noida Authority – out of their offices for their involvement in another land allotment case. Rajiv Kumar and Neera have been facing trial in the land allotment case for over a decade.
