BHU student held for 'harassing' girl student

BHU chief proctor Royana Singh said that taking note of her complaint, the case was forwarded to Lanka police for necessary action.

VARANASI: Kali Charan, a BAMS-III student of the Ayurveda faculty of Banaras Hindu University, was arrested by Lanka police after a girl student of a college affiliated to the university lodged a complaint of sexual harassment on Wednesday.

According to reports, the girl had gone to the outdoor patient unit of Ayurveda department at SSL hospital of BHU to consult a doctor. She alleged that Kali indulged in obscene talks and actions directed at her.

She reported the matter to varsity proctorial board. BHU chief proctor Royana Singh said that taking note of her complaint, the case was forwarded to Lanka police for necessary action.

SO Lanka Sanjiv Mishra said that on getting the written complaint from BHU proctorial board, an FIR under section 354 of IPC was lodged and Kali Charan was arrested.

The incident took place even as the police have failed in completing the investigation into any of the five cases lodged after September 21 incident of sexual assault of a girl student on BHU campus that led to violence and police action against girl students on the night of September 23.
