NEW DELHI: A Delhi court today sent three men, arrested for allegedly conspiring to kill Uttar Pradesh Shia Waqf Board Chairman Waseem Rizvi at the behest of gangster Dawood Ibrahim, to five days police custody.

Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Deepak Sherawat allowed the plea of the Delhi Police seeking custodial interrogation of all the accused to unearth the entire conspiracy.

The three accused, identified as Arif, Abrar and Saleem, were arrested from Bulandshahr in Uttar Pradesh, the police had earlier said.

In January, Rizvi had written letters to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UP Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, in which he claimed that madrassas bred terrorists and demanded that these Islamic institutions should be shut.

In the letter to the prime minister, Rizvi had demanded that madrassas be replaced by schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education or the Council for the Indian School Certificate examinations which should offer students an optional subject of Islamic education.
