KOLKATA: Union minister of state for culture and tourism Mahesh Sharma on Thursday said that the impact of Governor's rule in conflict-ridden Jammu and Kashmir will be felt soon as armed forces could 'deal more firmly' with separatist militants.

Speaking to media after attending a programme hosted by West Bengal BJP on International Yoga Day, Sharma said that police and security forces were working with more confidence due to imposition of Governor's rule.

"Militancy will be dealt with firmly in Jammu and Kashmir after imposition of Governor's rule. The situation will improve as armed forces are acting more confidently under Governor's rule. The impact of Governor's rule on militant activities will be felt soon," he said.

The state came under Governor's rule of N N Vohra on Wednesday after BJP withdrew from a three-year-old alliance with PDP on Tuesday. Indirectly attacking Pakistan for allegedly sponsoring insurgency in Kashmir valley, Sharma said that the government is working to bring back the Kashmiri youth to mainstream who have joined militancy.

"The whole world knows who is sponsoring terrorism in Kashmir and that country stands isolated today. We are working to win back the youth who have joined militancy and bring back to the mainstream," he added.
