India expresses concern over West Asia crisis; issues advisories for Iran, Israel

India has expressed concern over the escalation of the security situation in West Asia and reiterated its call for restraint by all concerned and the protection of civilians.

NEW DELHI: The volatility in West Asia has led India to issue advisories for its citizens in Israel and Iran.

" We are closely monitoring the recent escalation in the security situation in the region. Indian nationals are advised to avoid all non-essential travel to Iran. Those currently residing in Iran are requested to remain vigilant and stay in contact with Indian Embassy in Tehran,’’ says the advisory issued by the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).

India had issued a similar advisory for its citizens in Israel. "Indians living in Israel should follow the protocol as advised by the local authorities. Exercise caution and stay close to safety shelters. The Embassy is monitoring the situation and is in touch with Israeli authorities,’’ according to the Indian Embassy in Tel Aviv.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, extended congratulatory wishes to PM of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu on Rosh Hasahanah on Wednesday. However, it may be recalled that two days back he had called PM Netanyahu and spoke about preventing escalation of the current situation and restoring peace in the region.

India has expressed concern over the escalation of security situation in West Asia and reiterated its call for restraint by all concerned and protection of civilians.

"It is important that the conflict doesn’t taken a wider regional dimension and we urge that all issues be addressed through dialogue, diplomacy,’’ read a statement issued by MEA.
