CHENNAI : West Indies spinner Sunil Narine, who was ‘reported’ for suspect action in Pakistan Super League and put on a ‘warning’ list, is taking a huge risk by playing IPL without clearing his remodelled action at the SRMC sports medicine facility in Chennai, the BCCI-accredited institution for chucking protocols.

Sources at SRMC say that by not consulting experts on remodelling his action, Narine is taking a gamble. Kolkata Knight Riders play Royal Challengers Bangalore in Kolkata on Sunday. Neither Narine nor the KKR management has asked for an appointment for a test at SRMC.

“As per IPL guidelines, any bowler who has been reported has to come to a BCCI-accredited facility to  clear his name,’’ said a source.“No one knows if his remodelled action is correct or not. If the umpires report him, the match referee will suspend him till he gets his action cleared. That process is extensive and will take a couple of weeks or more. Then the BCCI suspect action committee  must clear him after reading the report. If reported, the  player is as good as out of IPL.’’

Review and correction of actions can take a lot of time. “As far as chucking is concerned, there are two things. We see if the bowler is chucking or not and then suggest corrective measures at our rehab centre. We also study the remodelled action and clear it, if it is within the laws. It requires at least 72 hours of detailed study to file a report.”ashok.v@newindianexpress.com
