Pomp marks GITAM's fourth convocation

The fourth convocation ceremony of GITAM University was held with great grandeur at the Shivaji Auditorium in the University campus in Visakhapatnam Saturday. The auditorium was a galore of academicians, and also of graduates and post graduates anxiously waiting to receive their convocation certificates.

Planning Commission member Padma Vibhushan Dr Krishnaswamy Kasturirangan was the chief guest of the event. Dr Kasturirangan was conferred with an honorary degree of Doctor of Science by GITAM University for his services and pioneering contributions to the nation.

Delivering the convocation address, Dr Kasturirangan pointed out how the country is at an important phase of development, where the greatest change in global economic polarity is underway. But the trends in growth will further open up immense opportunities for the youth, he said, and added that students should seize these exciting opportunities and earn respect globally.

Earlier, vice chancellor Prof G Subrahmanyam presented a brief profile of GITAM University.

Convocation degrees were presented by the chancellor of GITAM University Padma Shri Koneru Ramakrishna Rao to 28 PhD and 11 MPhil holders. 414 graduates and 648 post graduates from science, engineering, pharmacy, management and international business programmes would receive their convocation degrees.
