Home Secy: AP Has to Form Own OCTOPUS, Greyhounds

The state police reportedly wanted the Union home ministry to sanction Rs 460 crore for setting up OCTOPUS and Greyhounds in the residuary state of Andhra Pradesh.

At a meeting with IPS officers held by the ministry of home affairs secretary Anil Goswami at the Secretariat here on Wednesday, the officers wanted the Centre to allocate Rs 460 crore for new offices for Seemandhra. However, Anil Goswami is understood to have said that the new state had to make its own arrangements for such funds. Chief secretary PK Mohanty too was present at the meeting.

According to sources, home secretary TP Das and other officials gave a power-point presentation to Anil Goswami on how they were working on the division of the police department between Andhra and Telangana.

The OCTOPUS and Greyhounds will be under Central control for the first three years. Later, the residuary AP has to set up their own units. Anil Goswami wanted the state police to prepare a detailed note on the additional police force required for the two new states. Anil suggested on how to distribute weapons, vehicles and other movable assets of the department.

Several IPS officers requested Goswami to give them options to chose either Telangana or Andhra Pradesh. However, Goswami told the officers that the allocation of AIS officers would be done by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT).

Tucker to Head State Reorganisation Department

Hyderabad: The state reorganisation department in the general administration department (GAD) will be headed by SP Tucker. Principal secretary, Planning, Satya Prakash Tucker is placed in full additional charge of the post of principal secretary,  General Administration (SR) Department with immediate effect. Orders to this effect were issued by chief secretary PK Mohanty on Wednesday. The subjects of accommodation, claims and general hitherto dealt by secretary to government (Accommodation & SR), General Administration Department are hereby allotted to secretary to government (Political), General Administration Department. Senior IAS officers  PV Ramesh (Finance) K Ramakrishna Rao (Finance Department), Jayesh Ranjan (APIIC), N Siva Sankar (GAD) and B Venkatesham (Housing) are designated as ex-officio principal secretary/secretary/special secretary in General Administration (SR) Department to assist Tucker, in respect of subjects assigned to them. The orders were issued after the meeting with MHA secretary Anil Goswami on Tuesday.
