TIRUMALA:Curtains have come down on the nine-day mega religious annual Brahmotsavams of Lord Venkateswara in Tirumala with Chakrasnana Mahotsavam on Thursday morning.

The temple priests performed ‘Snapana Tirumanjanam’ to ‘Utsavarulu’ and ‘Sri Sudarshana Chakrattalwar’ reciting ‘Purusha-Sri-Bhu Suktams’ as per ‘Vaikhanasa Agamavidhi’.

The ‘Sudarshana Chakram’ - the spinning disc-like weapon with 108 serrated edges is often depicted as ‘Ayudhapurusha’ (anthropomorphic form) of Lord Sri Maha Vishnu. As ‘Sudarshana Chakra’ is considered the subordinate figure of thr Lord, the Vedic scholars performed ‘Chakra Snanam’ with religious ecstasy to this ‘Ayudhapurusha’.

According to the Puranas, ‘Sudarshana Chakra’ is used for the ultimate destruction of an enemy. There is yet another significance. The word ‘Sudarshana means ‘vision of which is auspicious’. Hence, Sudarshana is generally worshiped during ‘Homas’ or rituals or religious events to ward off negative powers or vibrations. This is a significant feature in performing ‘Chakra Snanam’ to the holy disc during Brahmotsavams and other important festivals.

In Tirumala, ‘Chakra Snanam’ is performed to Chakrattalwar four times in a year during annual Brahmotsavams, Vaikuntha Dwadasi, Ratha Sapthami and during Anantha Padmanatbha Vratam.

The serene waters of Swamy Pushkarini vibrated to rhythmic recitation of mantras on Thursday morning. The huge LED screens displayed on the four sides of Pushkarini gave the complete view of the ‘Chakrasnana Mahotsavam’ episode to the tens of thousands of people  who converged to have the holy bath. The devotees chanting Govinda Namas took the holy dip as soon as the ‘Chakrattalwar’ was given sacred ‘Avabridasnanam’.

Chairman Dr Ch Krishnamurthy, executive officer Dr D Sambasiva Rao, joint executive officers K S Sreenivasa Raju, IG  Gopalakrishna, SP (Urban)  Gopinath Jatti, CV & SO Nagendra Kumar, Board members Suchithra Ella, Hariprasad, A V Ramana, DP Anantha G Bhanuprakash Reddy, ACVSO Sivakumar Reddy, DyEO temple Chinnamgari Ramana, Peishkar R Selvam, Parpathyedar Ajay and others were present.
