HYDERABAD: The state government, which has been overriding its own decisions with regard to construction of the Interim Government Complex being built at Velagapudi, which will act as State government’s Transitional Headquarters, has yet again changed its decision.

Now, it has put on hold its earlier plan to construct two more floors on the Interim Government Complex, comprising six blocks, where the secretariat will be housed temporarily from June 27.

With the secretariat staff saying that they can’t work in a building where construction activities are going on, the government, in order to shift the staff from Hyderabad to Velagapudi by June 27 at one go, has now kept on hold its proposal to construct two more floors.

The additional two floors were planned earlier to house the offices of the heads of departments (HoDs) in the Interim Government Complex in order to ensure that all HoDs, along with secretariat,  function from same complex for  administrative convenience.

But, now, chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu has asked the officials to identify suitable buildings in Vijayawada and Guntur to relocate the HoDs, which means that the interim complex will be restricted to G+1 floors for now.

“For now, the CMwants to set up the secretariat, including his chamber and offices of his ministers, in the temporary complex which will act as the state government’s transitional headquarters. He has directed HoDs concerned to set up offices in vacant government buildings in Vijayawada and Guntur. If vacant buildings are not available, they are asked to hire private buildings,” a senior official told Express.

Municipal administration minister P Narayana, who looks after the entire capital city construction exercise, said the government identified 40,000 sq ft of office space at the Guntur mirchi yard and another 39,000 sq ft in other places in the same city for setting up the offices of HoDs.

According to sources, as the government has now decided to shift its entire staff including those working in HoDs to the new capital region at one go by June 27, it wants to provide them ‘temporary offices’ in Guntur and Vijayawada for the time being.

“Later, they will be moved to IGC in a phased manner,” another senior officer said.

5-day week for staff of Amaravati secretariat

Hyderabad: In a bid to lure its staff working in Hyderabad to move to the new capital city, the state government has issued formal orders introducing a five-day week system for them in Amaravati.

As a majority of the staff have decided to keep their families in Hyderabad while relocating to Amaravati, the government has introduced this system on temporary basis for one year.

“At the request of employee associations, the government has decided to introduce five-day week working system in offices of the secretariat and HoDs initially for a period of one year to relieve employees from the stress of managing their families due to shifting from Hyderabad,” state government chief secretary SP Tucker said here on Monday.
