ELURU: Miscreants beat up a TV channel reporter at Pittala Vemavaram village in Peravali mandal on Wednesday midnight. The journalist, who was seriously injured, has been admitted to the Tanuku Government Hospital where his condition is said to be stable.
According to information, Nallamilli Rama Reddy has recently filed two stories on illegal sand mining operations which were aired by the channel.
On Wednesday, around midnight, unknown miscreants kept knocking on his door. After he opened the door, they sought to know why he had filed the stories. As they were speaking, an iron rod which they had concealed fell on the floor.
Rama Reddy, sensing danger, tried to shoot the miscreants with his camera and then called the sub-inspector of police who promised to rush his men to his house.
But the miscreants, using iron rods, beat him up and also attacked his aged mother Varalakshmi when she went to his rescue. Rama Reddy sustained injuries on his head and legs.
After that, the miscreants fled from the scene. Before knocking on the doors of the reporter, the miscreants smashed the street lights. Later, listening to the cries of Rama Reddy’s mother, neighbours woke up and immediately shifted him to the Tanuku Government Hospital.
Endowments Minister Manikyala Rao visited him at the Hospital on Thursday.
