According to preliminary reports, and also officials of the Animal Husbandry Department who inspected the carcasses, the incident occurred after the cows consumed poisonous shoots at Daida village.

All the 56 cows belonged to one Lakshmiah of Nalgonda district in Telangana State. He brought the animals to Daida village as there was not enough fodder in his native place - Kesarajupalli village of Nalgonda district in Telangana State.
