VIJAYAWADA: Opposition TDP members were suspended for the day on Tuesday for disrupting the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly demanding a discussion on the spiralling prices of essential commodities.
Assembly Speaker Tammineni Sitaram suspended the TDP members for throwing papers on the Chair, displaying placards and blowing whistles in the House.
They included TDLP Deputy Leader K Atchannaidu, N Balakrishna, B Ashok, A Bhavani, G Butchaiah Chowdary, N Chinarajappa, Y Sambasiva Rao, N Ramanaidu, Ganbabu, G Ravi Kumar, D Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy, V Ramakrishna Babu and G Rammohan.
The TDP members rose to their feet when the Speaker disallowed the adjournment motion moved by them.
Raising slogans against the YSRC government and Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, they rushed to the podium, tore the copies of agenda and threw them at the Assembly Speaker.
They pressed for a discussion on the adjournment motion even as the ruling YSRC members took objection to the unruly behaviour of the TDP MLAs.
The YSRC members accused their TDP counterparts of showing disrespect towards a BC leader.
In the pandemonium, the government moved and passed two bills, amending the Andhra Pradesh Advocates’ Welfare Fund Act, 1987 and the Advocates’ Clerks Welfare Fund Act, 1992.
Later, MLA TJ Sudhakar Babu initiated the discussion on the Motion of Thanks to the Governor’s address. As the pandemonium continued, the Speaker announced tea break.
The situation, however, did not change after the one hour break, and the TDP MLAs continued their protest. To bring normalcy, the Speaker suspended all the TDP MLAs for the day.
They squatted on the stairway of the podium raising slogans, prompting the marshals to escort them out.
