VISAKHAPATNAM: The Visakhapatnam One-Town police on Friday registered an FIR in the death of six-year-old UKG student T Pranay Teja, who collapsed in his classroom at Little Garden School in Vizag on Thursday.

The boy’s family told police that they had no suspicion over his death. The case was registered under Section 194 of the BNSS based on a complaint lodged by his father, Tammana Krishna Prasad.

According to the FIR, Krishna Prasad stated that he and his family returned from a pilgrimage to Tirupati and Hyderabad on August 18. Pranay returned to school on August 20.

The father dropped Pranay at the school at 8.30 am on Thursday. Around noon, the school management informed the family that the boy had collapsed while a teacher was reprimanding him for not completing his homework after the family trip. The school shifted him to King George Hospital (KGH), where doctors declared him dead.

Krishna described his son as a gentle and timid child who was easily frightened. After viewing the classroom CCTV footage, the family observed that the boy collapsed while the teacher was scolding him. The family requested the police to take action. “The exact cause of death will be established after the post-mortem and pathology reports are received,” police said. The body was later handed over to the family.

Meanwhile, the School Education Department has constituted a three-member committee comprising Vizag Regional Joint Director, District Educational Officer and Revenue Divisional Officer to inquire into it. Police said action will be taken based on findings.
