BANGALORE: It will be another two months before the Raichur Thermal Power Station (RTPS) Unit-4 will start functioning again, and till then power generation will be short by 150 MW, officials said.

“The maintenance work will take at least two months and is expected to be completed by July,” KPCL managing director SM Jaamdar said on Sunday.

The good news for RTPS however, is that its Unit-8 is to be commissioned by May 25. Also, Jaamdar said that all three reservoirs have enough water to generate power till the monsoon arrives in June.

RTPS’ Unit-4 has been closed for annual maintenance. The repair work is being carried out under the supervision of a Japanese team that is providing its expertise to Karnataka Power Corporation Ltd.

Jaamdar told Express on Sunday that the repairs have already been undertaken by Bharat Heavy Electrical Ltd and the Japanese company will supervise the maintenance work.

“In the first week of this month, three units of RTPS had to be shut down due a technical snag, while Unit- 4 was closed for annual maintenance.” At present there is shortage of 150 MW due to the closure of Unit-4, despite that generation has been around 1200 MW, he said.
