MADIKERI:This monsoon too, the residents of Talacauvery and Bhagamandala will have to suffer the rain fury as the promised flyover will take another year to materialise.

Talacauvery and Bhagamandala are considered holy places by the people of Kodagu as well as those who live on the banks of river Cauvery across the state. River Cauvery is the lifeline for residents of four states as it provides water for drinking and paddy cultivation. But when the same river swells during heavy rainfall it cuts off the Talacuavery and Bhagamandla and also causes heavy loss to the business and crops due to inundation.

To avoid being cut off, residents of Bhagamandala have been demanding a flyover or a hanging bridge.

Though Talcauvery and Bhagamandala got a facelift worth crores of rupees a few years ago, ensuring connectivity during monsoon was not considered.

Last year, after District Minister K J George’s visit to Bhagamandala during monsoon, he announced a flyover. The work on the project has not started due to technical and administrative reasons, officials said and added that it looks like it will take another year to materialise.

S E Jayanth of Bhagamandala told Express that it should have been done many years ago, but no one thought about it. “Now that we have a plan, though it may take another  two to three years, we will get a flyover,” he said.

Former Zilla Panchayat member H J Sathish Kumar expressed happiness over the efforts made to revive the connectivity.
