BENGALURU: The state government has decided to give stipends to students belonging to Koraga and Jenukuruba communities until they get jobs.

Social Welfare Minister H Anjaneya on Saturday said the population of both the communities was declining. “The number of people from these communities who pursue education is also less and hence we want to encourage them,” he said.

He also announced free ration for people belonging to Gowdalu and Hasaluru tribes. “The population of these tribes is only 5,000. The scheme will start on February 1,” he said.

The government will hold a convention for Adivasis in Mysuru on February 1. Apart from providing facilities to various tribes like sewing units and facilitating loans, the government will also give title deeds to several beneficiaries who are forest dwellers.
