VIJAYAPURA: Miffed at not getting a berth in the cabinet, Indi MLA Yashwanthrayagouda Patil submitted his resignation on Monday. Muddebihal MLA CS Nadagouda, another hopeful for a cabinet berth, also resigned from the post of Karnataka Soaps and Detergent Limited (KDSL) in protest, but not as the MLA.

Nadagouda said he will wait and speak with the chief minister in a few days and also talk to his supporters before taking a final call. “The party did not keep its promise. Despite being loyal to the party for decades, they failed to consider it. That is why I decided to resign from the MLA position,” Yashwanthrayagouda said. He said the party high command had assured him twice that he would be inducted into the new cabinet.

The new development has shattered the hopes of Vijayapura district getting a second minister. The district now has only one minister, MB Patil.

In the Siddaramaiah government, the district had two ministers – MB Patil and Shivanand Patil. During the Congress-JD(S) coalition government, Shivanand Patil had joined the cabinet as health minister. When DK Shivakumar took over as CM, MB Patil found his place in the cabinet, but Shivanand Patil was excluded.

After becoming minister, MB Patil had told that he had appealed to the Congress high command to give one more ministerial berth, but now, the expansion has made it clear that Vijayapura will not have an additional minister.
