ALUVA: Elaborate arrangements are being made for the feast of St Sebastian at the pilgrim centre in Kanjoor, Transport Minister Jose Thettayil said here.

Usually, several lakhs of devotees throng the church during the feast days. The feast will be held from January 10 to January 27.

He convened a meeting of the officials of various government departments, organisations and church here to evaluate the arrangements and progress of each department.

ADM K N Raji, vicar Fr Sebastian Kalapurackal, senior officers of departments and church officebearers attended the meeting.

KSRTC will operate special services to Kanjoor, from Thrissur, Chalakudy, Angamaly, Aluva, Ernakulam, Moovattupuzha and Perumbavoor depots. Special permits would be issued to private buses to operate services from other towns.

A police contingent would be deployed in Kanjoor and other important areas near the church. A Police control room, under the supervision of a DySP, would be set up in Kanjoor during the feast.

A prime feature of the festival is the fireworks display. Water Authority, KSEB, Health, Civil Supplies and Excise personnel will camp in Kanjoor for the smooth conduct of the feast.

The PWD and local bodies will finish the repair and maintenance of roads leading to the church.

Steps have been taken to repair the Kanjoor Bazar Road.
