Express News Service

CHENNAI/THRISSUR: Shan Johnson, a budding singer-composer, was found dead in her flat at Rangarajapuram in Chennai on Friday. Shan is the daughter of the late Malayalam composer Johnson Master. The 29-year-old celebrity was staying alone in the apartment.

"We have been informed that it was a cardiac arrest which resulted in her death," said Chacko, Johnson Master's brother. The veteran music director and composer had passed away on August 18, 2011, due to a heart attack. Six months later, his son Ren Johnson, 23, died in a bike accident in Chennai on the way to work at an IT company. Shan is survived by her mother.  Shan’s body is kept at Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem.

"The body of Shan will reach Thrissur on Saturday afternoon and the final rituals would be conducted on Sunday noon at the St Sebastian's church at Nellikkunnu, the same place where her father was laid to rest," said Chacko.

"She lived in Chennai, busy with her work and recording albums. She was due to arrive home on Thursday. Her latest album with Venugopal doing the vocals was set to be recorded in Thiruvananthapuram," said Babu, a close relative.  Shan used to write and compose her own songs and was well-versed in Carnatic and Western music. Shan had also written the Hindi lyrics for a song in 'Vettah', an upcoming Malayalam film.  She had sung in the movies ‘Thira,' ‘Praise the Lord' and ‘Engeyum Eppothum.' She also worked as a composer in the movie ‘My name is John.'
