KOCHI: In a new development, the special investigation team probing the Jisha murder case received vital clue that could lead to the killer, through DNA profiling.

According to the officers, the profile of DNA collected from Jisha's fingernails and  blood smears found in her house matched with the samples found on the bite marks on the victim's body.

An officer with the new investigation team headed by ADGP B Sandhya said the DNA sample also matched with that of the saliva found on the dress worn by the victim at the time of the murder. "Since there are no eyewitnesses in the case, we have to rely only on scientific evidence. The latest findings will help us crack the case," he said.

The police will now be conducting DNA tests to check whether the samples are matching with those of the suspects.

According to the investigation officers, the killer might have got injured during the tussle with the victim. Based on the findings, the police will prepare two additional sketches of the suspects. The previous investigation team had prepared two sketches, and published one of them during the initial stage of the probe.

The previous team collected DNA samples from  saliva stain recovered from the victim's  dress. The sample was later sent for DNA profiling at the Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Bio-technology. Earlier, the postmortem report revealed bite marks on the left shoulder of the victim. The bite marks indicated that there was a gap of three millimetre between two front teeth of the suspect.

29-year old Jisha, a law student, was brutally raped and murdered at her residence at Iringol near Perumbavoor on April 28.
