Key suspect taken into custody in Abhimanyu murder case in Kerala

KOCHI: In a major breakthrough in the Abhimanyu murder case, the police team on Sunday took into custody a Campus Front of India (CFI) activist, who is one among the alleged perpetrators of the gruesome murder.

Sources with the investigation team said Adil, 20, son of Abdul Salim, of Chunangamveli in Aluva, and a CFI district committee member, was picked up from his residence. The officers said Adil was directly involved in the murder and was part of hatching the conspiracy. However, the police have not yet recorded his arrest as the interrogation is under way.

The officers said Adil, a BTech student, is a key CFI operative in the district. His twin brother was earlier taken into custody, while his father Abdul Salim was arrested in connection with the attack on the police during a march taken out to the Kerala High Court in protest against the court order in the Hadia case last year. The police said a 15-member team operated the murder of Abhimanyu.

Crackdown on SDPI-PFI activists continues

The police are continuing crackdown on SDPI-PFI activists in connection with Abhimanyu’s murder.
The sleuths raided the residences of SDPI and PFI workers in Ernakulam and Alappuzha and took around 90 people into preventive custody. On Sunday, the Ernakulam Rural Police alone took 21 persons into preventive custody.The officers said, of the 21 taken into custody, 20 are SDPI activists, while one is a PFI worker.

CPM fund collection to conclude today

The fund collection by the CPM for helping the family of Abhimanyu will conclude on July 16. The amount collected will be used to help the family members of Abhimanyu and also for the treatment of Arjun and Vineeth, who were injured in the attack.
