THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Marxist patriarch V S Achuthanandan who turned 95 on Saturday celebrated his birthday with a simple function.

As usual there were no major celebrations other than cutting cake in the presence of his family, and a birthday sadya. Many of his well-wishers came to wish the veteran, the oldest living Communist leader in the country now. 

Some of his close comrades including CPM general secretary Sitaram Yechury, state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan, Ports Minister Ramachandran Kadannappally called him up to convey birthday greetings.

Senior CPI leader Pannian Raveendran along with CPI state assistant secretary K Prakash Babu visited VS and honoured him with a ponnada.
