Kerala health minister visits hospital collapse victim's family amidst protests

The family demanded that the state government take over the medical expenses of Bindu’s daughter and give her son a permanent job.

KOTTAYAM: Four days after a building collapse at the Government Medical College Hospital killed a 52-year-old woman, Health Minister Veena George on Sunday visited her family at Thalayolaparambu in Kottayam.

Veena George visited the victim's family amid protests seeking her resignation over the incident.

The minister spoke to the late D Bindu’s husband Vishruthan, mother Seethalakshmiamma, and her son and daughter.

The family demanded the state government take over the medical expenses of Bindu’s daughter and give her son a permanent job.

Addressing the media, Veena said the government is with the family and will look into their demands.

“I share the family’s grief. This separation is most painful. The government will be with the family,” she later posted on Facebook.
