BALASORE: A ‘GHAJINI’ mania has gripped the district. The hairdo that Aamir Khan has sported in the latest Bollywood flick has caught the fancy of youngsters here even though the Bollywood blockbuster is yet to make its debut in cinema halls across the district. And the craze is quite infectious.

Youths in their age group of 15 to 25 are thronging the saloons to have a Ghajini haircut. The youths are not hooked to the haircut Aamir has sported in the first-half of the film which is classic and professional rather it is the trendy hairdo - small hair with a sharp and long cut mark on his left side - of the heartthrob in the second-half, which has caught their fascination. ‘‘The film may not be showing here, but we have already watched its CD more than ten times. Even before the film was released nationwide, we had spotted the hairstyle in newspapers and TV channels,’’ said Ratikant Das (24), who works in a garment shop.

‘‘As Aamir looks very handsome, smart and strong in this hairstyle, I wished to wear the same look,’’ he added.

What is more interesting is that, in the film the hairstyle Aamir wears is not for fashion sake. He had to cut his hair in such a style because he had sustained injuries on his head. ‘‘Despite this, the youngsters like to have it because it looks better than the other styles currently in vogue. I am looking good in this haircut. My friends appreciate it too,’’ said Md Babu Khan (25), a diehard fan of Aamir.

The saloon owners are cashing on the craze among the youngsters. ‘‘We generally charge Rs 15 for a normal haircut. But for a Ghajini hairstyle we demand Rs 25 to Rs 50. It depends on the time consumed. If someone wants dying with the Ghajini design we charge Rs 100,’’ said
