ORISSA: FOR THE puja revelers across Orissa, release of Oriya films during this festive occasion always offers enough excitement. And as three films were released on Thursday last week setting a record, the Oriya cine fans and industry people were naturally in a celebratory mood.

While Prema Adhei Akshara was released in 25 theatres causing much hype; Diwana and Megha Sabarire Asiba Pheri were screened in 28 and 13 theatres respectively. But Prema Adhei Akshara could alone live up to the hype while the rest two films are yet to make any impact in the market. Lack of variety and proper publicity have marred the marketability of the two films.

Love and romance have been the focus in the three films but what mattered much was the packaging in Prema Adhei Akshara for the young viewers who comprise the largest chunk in the audience. A teenagers’ love story set in contemporary times and filled with fun, they could correlate to it while in the rest two films that dwelt on love that was linked to the previous births failed to appeal to them. Adding to the excitement, four film directors have acted in the film Prema Adhei Akshara – its director Sudhakar Basant, Ashok Pati, Avtar Singh and Susant Mani.

If the directors have failed, the lead pairs in all the three films have, however, won over their fans. Diwana directed by Ashok Pati features Anubhav and Varsha whose chemistry works well on screen. Similar has been the case with Sabyasachi and Priya in Megha Sabarire Asiba Pheri. And budding actors Babushan and debutante Riya have excelled as well.

Coincidentally, the three films have a common music director – Malaya Mishra – but he has put in his best to ensure variety in his compositions.
