JAIPUR: The Rajasthan government has ordered the construction of a new building for a government school at Rampura Kanwarpura in Jaipur’s Bagru Assembly constituency, a day after Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) workers were allegedly attacked during a visit to highlight the dilapidated condition of the school. The CJP termed the decision a victory for its campaign.

According to an order issued late Saturday night, construction of the new school building will begin on September. A total of Rs 18 lakh has been sanctioned for the project, including Rs 12 lakh from the District Mineral Foundation Trust (DMFT), approved on August 13, and Rs 6 lakh from the MLA fund.

The Government Primary School at Rampura Kanwarpura was declared dilapidated in September 2025 and subsequently taken out of use. Villagers had since arranged two rooms and a tin shed to allow classes to continue.

The development comes amid a wider government claims to upgrade school infrastructure across Rajasthan. The Chief Minister’s Office said a three-year roadmap involving an estimated expenditure of Rs 12,500 crore has been prepared on the directions of Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma for government schools across all 41 districts.

Covering 2026-27 to 2028-29, the plan proposes Rs 2,487.75 crore for 3,587 new school buildings, Rs 8,378.30 crore for 83,783 classrooms, Rs 1,129.45 crore for major repairs at 22,589 schools and Rs 340.40 crore for 13,616 toilet complexes.

The government said projects worth Rs 3,006.34 crore are already sanctioned or at different stages of tendering and implementation. These include Rs 620 crore for 518 new school buildings, with construction underway on 181, and Rs 300 crore for 2,906 classrooms. Another Rs 550 crore has been provided for major repairs and safety-related works.

Around Rs 1,087 crore is also being spent on technology upgrades by December 2026, including 9,000 smart classrooms, 80,000 tablets and 7,000 ICT laboratories.

CJP co-convener Ashutosh Ranka thanked Sharma and described the announcements as a “huge victory” for the party’s “School Thik Karo” campaign. He, however, urged the government to make adequate alternative arrangements for students until new buildings are completed, saying children should not have to study in cow shelters.

The decision follows Friday’s confrontation at Rampura Kanwarpura, where several CJP workers were injured while attempting to visit the school. Ranka alleged that the attack was carried out at the behest of Education Minister Madan Dilawar and that those involved were associated with local BJP MLA Kailash Verma.

Verma, however, accused the CJP workers of creating unrest in the village during an unauthorised school visit.
