NEW DELHI: A criminal appeal challenging the Madras High Court’s acquittal of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa and three others in the Pleasant Stay (Kodai) Hotel case, was on Wednesday withdrawn by appellant R Sai Bharat from the Supreme Court.

In his application for withdrawal, Sai Bharat pointed out that the State Government had not filed any Special Leave Petition against the acquittal since 2001.

He also claimed he had some personal difficulty and was not in a position to pursue the appeals further.

A Bench comprising justices Arijit Pasayat, Lokeshwar Singh Panta and P Sathasivam then dismissed the appeal as withdrawn.
