CHENNAI: Union Minister for Overseas Indian Affairs Vayalar Ravi on Tuesday urged the aIndian diaspora to invest in the country to make a good profit. He said the investment scenario in India was fine and there was no cause for worry about investing in the country of their origin.

Participating in the annual conference of the Global Organisation of People of Indian Origin International, he said the government would take all possible measures to protect the economy and the banking sector.

Easing of regulations and injecting stimulus packages to provide a boost to the economy in the days of global recession had been done to encourage investment.

Union Minister for Statistics G K Vasan presented GOPIO Community Service Awards to Baroness Shreela Flather (UK), Albert Ramdin, Suriname Ambassador , Chandru Ghanshandas Advani (Yokohama, Japan), Upendra Chivukala , Deputy Speaker of New Jersey Assembly and Logie Naidoo, Deputy Mayor of Durban, South Africa.

Vasan underscored the beneficial investment climate prevailing in India and asked overseas Indians to participate and contribute to the country’s growing economy.

M M Jacob, former Governor; Inder Singh, GOPIO International president, Ashook Ramsaran, secretary general; Thomas Abraham, chairman and ‘Americai’ V. Narayanan, convention chair, Chennai, also spoke.
