TPGIT student is TN topper in GATE

D Rukmangadan, a final year civil engineering student of Thanthai Periyar Government Institute of Technology (TPGIT) here secured an all-India ranking of 28 in the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) examination conducted by the IIT Bombay this year.

The results of the examination, conducted on January were published on March 15.

According to the college principal Dr Arularasu, Rukmangadan has also topped in Tamil Nadu with a score of 71.67/100.

A total of 67,472 candidates had appeared for the examination. The principal said the college had organised special and free coaching for three months for the GATE examination by the faculty R Raghupathi of the department of civil engineering, in which, 30 students had participated. For the first time, the examination was conducted online. While most of the students who received coaching had been qualified in the GATE examination, high ranking would help the boys secure PG admission for course like MTech in prestigious institutions such as IIT, IISc, NIT, etc, he added.
