'Implement Lawrence panel Award'

The Tamilnadu Higher Secondary School Vocational Teachers Kazhagam has appealed to the School Education Minister K C Veeramani to implement the recommendations of the Dr HSS Lawrence Committee constituted in 1993 by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

The Tamilnadu Higher Secondary School Vocational Teachers Kazhagam has appealed to the School Education Minister K C Veeramani to implement the recommendations of the Dr HSS Lawrence Committee constituted in 1993 by Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa.

S N Janardhanan, State general secretary of the organisation  said a representatives from the organisation had met the minister and had handed over a memorandum in this regard. He said the committee recommendations tabled in the State Assembly in 1994, proposed a pay parity between the vocational teachers and the post graduate teachers. Despite the announcement of the recommendations being accepted, they were not introduced.

 “‘We requested the minister to look into it,” he said. They also urged the State to make vocational education compulsory in secondary education stream and promote eligible vocational teachers to the post of headmasters. Other demands were incentives for qualified vocational teachers, pension benefits, inclusion of vocational teachers in exam works and  more evaluation centres for vocational examinations papers.
