Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has inaugurated a number of sports facilities across the State, and also laid the foundation stone for sports facilities in a number of other places.
While the total cost of the facilities she inaugurated amounted to `4.64 crore, the new facilities for which she laid the foundation stone would be built at a cost of `10.08 crore. The CM inaugurated the facilities at a function on November 11.
Among these facilities were an indoor, wooden surfaced, air-conditioned squash court at the Anna Stadium in Tiruchy costing `16.1 lakh, a flood-lit indoor basketball court at the Tiruvannamalai District Sports Complex costing `57.26 lakh, a `75 lakh swimming pool measuring 2,328 square foot at the Ariyalur District Sports Complex, a new Karur District Sports Complex at a cost `1.96 crore with an athletics track, basketball court, volleyball court, football field and kho-kho ground.
She also inaugurated sports hostels in Cuddalore and Dindigul districts, built at a cost of `60 lakh each.
Jayalalithaa also laid the foundation stone for new facilities across the State.
These include a `80 lakh swimming pool in Virudhunagar district, a synthetic athletic track at the Anna Stadium in Tirunelveli district and a multi-purpose indoor stadium in Thoothukudi district to be built at a cost of `3 crore.
She also laid the foundation stone for sports hostels to be constructed at a cost of `55.55 lakh each in Ariyalur, Namakkal, Sivaganga, Theni and Thoothukudi districts.
Minister for Sports and Youth Welfare K C Veeramani, Chief Secretary Sheela Balakrishnan, Sports and Youth Welfare Secretary Mohammed Nasimuddin and Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT) Member Secretary K Rajaraman were among those who took part in the inauguration function.
Announces Solatium
Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa has expressed grief over the death of seven persons in road accidents involving government buses. She offered her condolences to the families of the deceased, and ordered that a solatium of `1 lakh each from the Chief Minister’s general relief fund.
