CM Declares Candidates for Mayor Posts in 3 Dts

CHENNAI: Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa on Friday announced party candidates for the by-election to mayor post in Coimbatore, Tirunelveli and Tuticorin corporations, the post of chairperson in eight municipalities and many other local body posts.

Coimbatore Urban district secretary Ganapathy P Rajkumar will be the party candidate for mayorship of Coimbatore Corporation while Tirunelveli Urban district women’s wing secretary E Bhuvaneswari will contest for mayorship in Tirunelveli Corporation.  Similarly, Tuticorin district women’s wing joint secretary A P R Anthony Gracy has been nominated for mayorship of Tuticorin Corporation.

The AIADMK nominees for the posts of municipal chairperson include S Kannadasan (Arakkonam), R Kumaran (Cuddalore), P Arulazhagan (Vridhachalam), D Saravanakumar (Coonoor), R Rajasekaran (Pudukottai), M Sridhar (Kodaikanal), S Santhanalakshmi (Ramanathapuram) and V M Rajalakshmi (Sankarankoil).

Jayalalithaa announced candidates for the post of chairperson in seven town panchayats, including Omalur (M Sivakumar), Tirumuruganpoondi (A Palanichamy), Madathukulam (S Palanichamy), Sulur (S Thangaraj), Irugur (D Padmasundari), Abiramam (M Kumanan) and Sundarapandiyapuram (V Pandaram).

She has also announced the party’s nominees, A David Gnanasekaran and S S K Rajendran, for wards 35 and 166 in Chennai Corporation. The wards fell vacant after the death of AIADMK councillor A Gnanasekaran and resignation of V N P Venkatraman, who became MLA in the Assembly by-election held in Alandur in May.

The AIADMK supremo also announced party nominees for 53 municipal wards, 101 town panchayat wards, 11 district panchayat union wards and 82 panchayat union wards.

The nomination window for the by-elections to these posts opened on August 28 and the last date for filing nominations will be on September 4. Elections will be held on September 18 and results will be declared on September 22.
