CHENNAI: Minutes after announcing the merger of their factions, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister K Palaniswami and O Panneerselvam headed to the memorial of former AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa and paid floral tributes.

As they walked to the memorial, they were flanked by their respective supporters. They also paid tribute at the memorial of AIAMDK founder and late chief minister M G Ramachandran popularly known as MGR.

Falling out of favour with jailed AIADMK chief V K Sasikala, Panneerselvam had revolted against her on February 7 after doing a near 30-minute meditation at the memorial on the Marina Beach here.

In an interesting culmination of events, that saw Palaniswami take over and win a confidence vote following the revolt by Panneerselvam, the former Chief Minister joined hands with his successor to pay tributes at her memorial.

Jayalalithaa's memorial has since turned into an arena of spectacle as not only did Panneerselvam launch his revolt against Sasikala from here, but the latter, prior to incarceration in a disproportionate assets case, took a vow, apparently of making a comeback.

Palaniswami and Panneerselvam later paid tributes at the memorial of Dravidian veteran and former Chief Minister, the late CN Annadurai, after whom the AIADMK (All India Anna Drvida Munnetra Kazhagam)is named.
